What we work on in lessons
My goal is for you to gain musical logic: to understand what you’re playing, why it works and how to take it into any standard. Theory always goes onto the piano; it doesn’t stay on paper.
- Harmony and voicings with the Barry Harris method
- Improvisation and bebop vocabulary, step by step
- Rhythm: swing feel, phrasing, rhythmic precision
- Repertoire: how to study a standard from scratch
- Technique and hand independence
- Comping and the role of the piano in a group
The Barry Harris method
Barry Harris (1929–2021) was a bebop pianist and one of the most important teachers in the history of jazz. His system explains harmony through a few clear ideas, such as the 6th diminished scale, chord “families” and voice leading, which you apply straight away at the piano.
It’s the foundation of my teaching, because it gives you something you rarely find on YouTube: a system that ties all the pieces together. A good place to start is my article Barry Harris Theory: Family Chords.
How the lessons work
- Online, over Zoom, wherever you are
- Private lessons of 60 minutes, at a regular day and time that suits us both
- Video and notes after each lesson, so you can practise until the next one
Each lesson has four parts: technique, voicings and harmony, improvisation and repertoire. Lessons are in English. Prices and all the details are on the page Lessons & Prices.
Who it’s for
For pianists of every level, from beginners to advanced, and even for piano teachers. Especially for those who:
- are confused by the scattered information on YouTube
- know theory but can’t manage to improvise
- come from classical piano and want to move into jazz
- want a system and guidance, not isolated “tricks”
Questions
How much do the lessons cost?
A single 60-minute lesson is €70, and there are packages of 5 and 10 lessons. All the details are on the page Lessons & Prices. If you have a question, get in touch.
What is the trial lesson like?
It’s free, it lasts 60 minutes and it’s online. We get to know each other, look at your level and talk about what suits you, with no commitment.
What level do I need?
I accept students from beginner to advanced. The lesson starts from where you are.
I play classical piano. Can I start jazz?
Yes. Many of my students come from classical training. The technique you have helps, and we work on what’s missing: harmony, rhythm and improvisation.
Do online piano lessons really work?
Yes. I teach students online in Greece and abroad. After each lesson you keep video and notes, so you know exactly what to practise until the next one.
